Malachi 2:15-16 “Did He not make them one, with a portion of the Spirit in their union? And what was the one God seeking? Godly offspring. So, guard yourselves in your spirit, and let none of you be faithless to the wife of your youth. For the man who does not love his wife but divorces her, says the Lord, the God of Israel, covers his garment with violence, says the Lord of hosts. So, guard yourselves in your spirit, and do not be faithless.”

In this context, the burden of guarding yourself is put on the husband.  Yet in our culture, marital infidelity is a sin that men and women commit.

What are we to guard from? The things that would destroy a marriage such as a lack of faith and trust in Jesus Christ, marital unfaithfulness, lust, anger, selfishness, pride, disrespect, etc.

If you see these things in your spirit, what should you do? Repent of them, and ask the Lord to forgive and cleanse you, and trust that the Holy Spirit will help you, walk in love towards your mate.

Husband’s Prayer: Lord, help me to love my wife, to understand her heart, and to guard my heart and marriage.

Wife’s Prayer: Lord, help me to Love Christ, respect my husband, and to submit.  Help me to guard my heart and marriage.
