August 9, 2020 Review of Philippians Philippians 1-4

This letter from Paul was read and discussed by the Philippian church. Clarification was sought, as well as how to apply these truths to daily living.

This letter is about JOY Jesus, Others, and You.

We are to be gracious and merciful all people, believers and unbelievers alike.

Jesus was humble and loved us enough to pay for our sin.

Chapter 1 Having Godly Actions in Ministering to Others. Partners and fellowship in ministry Verses 1-2 The work of partners Verses 3-11 Handling opposition during ministry Verses 12-18 Joy in life is expressed in victory as we are glad to be on the winning team.

Chapter 2 Having Godly Attitudes in Ministry True love towards others Verses 1-4 Serving with humility Verses 5-11 Serving with good works Verses 12-18 Investing in others Verses 19-30 We are called to work out our salvation by submitting to the Spirit’s leading, striving for unity in the body of Christ, having a servant’s attitude toward God and others as we imitate Christ, and an attitude of humility in regards to others.

Chapter 3 Keeping Godly Administration During Ministry Cautions and warnings Verses 1-11 Pressing forward Verses 12-16 Following faithful people Verses 17-21 The power of the resurrection, no one has to try to live up to religious standards. Beware of joy robbers, those who trade relationship with Christ for works or performance. No longer focus on rituals, but live for Christ. Be wary of those who profess Christ, but neglect their responsibilities by walking away from the body of believers and others to pursue their own gain and not godliness. Build the kingdom of God as children of God.

Chapter 4 Godly Aim, Our Purpose Others are where our treasures are Verses 1-7 Keeping good virtues Verses 8-13 Giving is living Verses 14-23 Love others, be peaceable, and bless others. These characteristics are marks of the Holy Spirit at work in our lives. God promises to watch over us. God’s peace floods our lives. God will protect us from wrong thoughts, wrong choices, and make us more healthy as we depend on Him. Serve as faithful conduits of God’s generosity remembering God has promised to supply our needs. We get to participate in God’s kingdom and bless others.

Summary: Display the truths of the Scriptures, resonate Jesus Christ, do not worry about problems, do not fret over issues or others choices, you be what Christ calls you to be– a person of victorious joy who counts it all joy in good times and hard times, because God has promised to meet your needs and you are on the winning side.
