Marriage Minute November 18, 2018
Malachi 2:10-12 “Have we not all one Father? Has not one God created us? Why then are we faithless to one another, profaning the covenant of our fathers? Judah has been faithless, and abomination has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem. For Judah has profaned the sanctuary of the Lord, which he loves, and has married the daughter of a foreign god. May the Lord cut off from the tents of Jacob any descendant of the man who does this, who brings an offering to the Lord of hosts!”
The children of Israel had Abraham as their Father and Creator. Yet, Israel turned away from Him as their Father by not keeping the moral law, forsaking the covenant, and violating their marriages by marrying people of other nations.
There are two principles we can learn as New Testament Christians:
1. God is concerned that His children marry others that are like-minded. A principle is that a believer shouldn’t marry an nonbeliever. We shouldn’t refuse to obey God’s covenant. This will result in problems, for the couple and for their future.
2. The phrase ‘One God Created Us’, also applies to marriage. It is an agreement between two adults. Forsaking “God our Creator” affects parents, siblings, aunts/uncles, children, the local church and a nation.
Prayer: May the Lord help us to follow the Bible, not our hearts. May the Lord strengthen our marriages, the families in our church, and those we influence for Christ Jesus.
